Bali is best if you’re going from May through October when the island has less rain. Whereas Phuket is better to visit from November to April when it’s a tad cooler and much less rainy.

If you are looking to relax on a white sand beach and swim in calm turquoise waters for the majority of your trip, staying in Phuket is perfect. But if you want a little more adventure, like trekking or exploring rainforests, then Bali is a no-brainer!

Luckily, comparing the best times to visit Bali and Phuket can make your decision much easier since they have opposite peak seasons. So if you have a set time for your trip, your problem is solved!

Generally, the best time to visit the island of Bali is throughout the dry season (May-October) when temperatures range from 21°C (70°F) to 33°C (92°F). The wet season (November-March) can be quite hot and humid but also brings some great deals for travelers.

The dry season in Phuket (November-April) is considered the best when temperatures reach up to 34°C (93°F). This is the peak season for tourists and prices tend to be higher. My second visit to Phuket was from Chiang Mai during the wet season (May-October) – it rained in short spurts and had plenty of sunshine, so don’t write it off completely!

When I was living in Chiang Mai, I vacationed for several weeks in Phuket – there are no beaches in Chiang Mai!

Picture-perfect beaches are the crown jewels of Phuket, each one more enchanting than the last. Phuket's beaches have powdery white sand with crystal-clear turquoise waters that make for some postcard-worthy views at every turn.

The most popular Phuket beaches are Patong, Karon, and Kata for partying. Mai Khao and Bangtao for a more relaxed atmosphere. If you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle, then island hopping in Phuket is also an option. Head to beautiful nearby islands like Koh Phi Phi or Krabi.

And if variety is what you seek, Bali has it in abundance. From the laid-back charm of Jimbaran to the sophisticated vibes of Seminyak, there's a beach to suit every taste.

On the other hand, Phuket boasts some of the best swimming and scuba diving spots in the region. Its got calm, warm waters that make it an ideal destination for underwater exploration.

Looking for some post-swim relaxation? Phuket has you covered with an array of beach bars to sip on a refreshing cocktail and soak up the lively atmosphere. Plus, Phuket offers budget-friendly options for those watching their wallets.

However, if luxury is what you crave, Bali steals the show with its array of high-end resorts and pampering experiences. Phuket has both luxury and budget options.

Phuket doesn’t have as many land adventures as Bali, but it has Muay Thai, Thai massage, cabaret, snorkeling, and scuba diving.

Swim through the corridors and witness the captivating sight of marine life making the wreck their home.

Bali is not as well-known for its scuba diving, but there’s still an underwater world to explore nearby.
