MEET THE Founder

Hi there! My name is Carolin Pilligrath and I'm the face behind Breathing Travel.

Hi there, I'm Carolin, the founder and traveller soul behind Breathing Travel. I was born in Germany and raised by my parents in a small country town among chickens and cornfields.

At the age of 16, I traded everything I knew for kangaroos and surf beaches and moved to Australia for a year to go to high school. My life has never been the same again and I am forever grateful for this opportunity that sparked the travel bug for me.

Breathing Travel was born in 2014 from an insatiable wanderlust.

Ever since the road has been my home. With 19, I extensively backpacked and road-tripped around Australia in a van, worked in a hotel in Perth, planted Strawberries on the Sunshine Coast and sold German pretzels in a bakery in Brisbane.

I urged to see more. I snorkelled with the beautiful fish in Fiji, snowboarded through New Zealand and conquered the highest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

Over the years, I have lived both in Singapore and Peru and travelled extensively around Southeast Asia and Europe. I have visited the temples of Bali, jungle trekked through wild Borneo, sat between chickens on a local bus in Vietnam and witnessed the sunrise at Machu Picchu in Peru.

We are devoted traveller souls, crafting stories and gear for beach enthusiasts, and travel addicts like you.

In November 2014, I decided to travel permanently and sold everything in my apartment, my car and bought a one-way ticket to Thailand. My goal was to travel and build my own business from my laptop. A few years into the journey, I was housesitting in Australia and met my now fiancé, Kurt.

I am truly living my dream, having seen many incredible places and met beautiful people along the way. Home is not a place, it is wherever my heart is. I currently have my home base on the Gold Coast in Australia.
