I love going back to my little Bali paradise. Hello Canggu, it’s always so nice to see you!
It’s been a while since I have been here and written about this awesome little spot between the lush green rice fields, surfable waves, and hip cafés. Quite a few things around here have changed, there is definitely a lot more going on, even though my visit fell into the wet season now and therefore low season.
So I got to explore Canggu again, check out all my old-time favourite places and take in all the new ones. This time, I got to stay at the surf-inspired Frii Hotel right in the center of Canggu and just a stone’s throw away from Echo Beach.
The Frii Hotel Echo Beach
Right around the corner from Echo Beach sits the boutique-style Frii Hotel in a pretty perfect location and literally in the heart of Canggu.
Featuring an outdoor pool land, beautiful rustic rooms, as well as a great rooftop terrace boasting views over the houses and rice paddies of Canggu as well as uninterrupted views out to the ocean. On the flip side you can, on a clear day, even see up to the famous volcano Mount Agung.
You can choose to stay on one of the higher levels of the hotel to have ocean views or opt for a ground-floor room such as I stayed in and you have the privilege to dip into the pool right from your room.
All compact rooms all have a flat-screen tv, free wifi, a kettle, minibar, safety box and air con, which is super important in the heat of Bali. And of course, all rooms feature ensure bathrooms with all the basic necessities.
I also found a desk in my room which was very handy to get some blog content uploaded in the evening. If you are Insta-crazy like me, you will surely appreciate the funky artwork and rustic furniture.
Walk up to the friendly stay at reception, which is, by the way, open 24 hours, and they will help you organize all sorts of activities or help you rent a scooter. They even have free secure parking under the building. Here you can also store your surfboards.
After a long day in the water, I recommend you also take advantage of the spa that offers massage treatments and more. I didn’t get to try any there but I heard some people speak about them very positively.
The Pool & Rooftop
One of the highlights of Frii is definitely the pool on the ground floor which is set among a tropical garden and has bean bags all along to hang out and relax in the sunshine. Since there are many surfers, solo travellers and couples staying at the hotel, the pool is where you meet and connect with them all!
On the rooftop, you can find the Seduction Restaurant which serves up Western as well as Indonesian food. If you have booked breakfast with your stay, you will take it up here. The buffet is good value for money, the eggs are cooked on demand and to your liking and will get you started for the day.
However, I cannot recommend enough to check out all the awesome cafes for some really tasty and Insta-worthy breakfast or brunch! Many of them I have already recommended in my extensive travel guide on Canggu. Also, check out this article on The Bali Bible for brekkie inspiration.
The rooftop is also your best bet to hit around sunset at you’ll get a stunning show in yellow and orange colours, talk about all those romantic things you can do in Bali!
The Central Location
Frii is a funky place in many ways and you will love the location of the hotel if you would like to stay close to all the main happenings of Canggu.
The beach is literally at the end of the street, which is a short 5-minute walk past a field of munching cows. To the Main Street of Canggu whereabouts can find many shops and restaurants it’s another short 5-minute walk in the opposite direction.
You wouldn’t even need a scooter here as you can walk to many things and take Go-Jek on the days you needed to get further away.
All in all, Frii Hotel is stylish and budget-friendly hotel option right in the heart of Canggu and I would love to stay again on my next visit to Bali!
