What is Jimbaran Like?

Jimbaran has held onto its Balinese culture and beautiful beaches throughout the development of tourism in this area, which is part of what makes it so special!

Colourful beach sunsets, delicious seafood, and stunning resorts are what captivate people and draw them to visit Jimbaran. What used to be an old fishing town, has now turned into a location for travellers to love and experience!

Jimbaran has been able to maintain its charm by carrying on local traditions despite the fast-growing tourist destination it has become.

If you’re looking for a romantic atmosphere or just to get away from everyday living, this part of Bali offers the perfect environment.

From relaxed days spent lying on the beach to a dazzling nightlife and food scene, Jimbaran does not disappoint!

How Far Is Jimbaran From the Airport?

Jimbaran is just a short 20 minutes drive from the airport, which makes it one of the most convenient tourist destinations to get to upon arriving in Bali.

The best way to set up transportation from the airport is to organise this in advance so you don't delay getting straight to your Jimbaran accommodation.

Alternatively, you can always get a taxi at the airport, or use Gojek, which is Bali’s version of Uber.

Once you arrive in Jimbaran, getting around is easy! The best way to do this is by foot, as the main road Jalan Raya Uluwatu, and many of the surrounding side streets, are lined with narrow walkways.

However, if you’re looking to venture further off this road and explore other nearby areas I'd recommend hiring a car and driver or renting a scooter. If you’re comfortable driving a scooter, rentals are typically around IDR 50,000 a day (USD 5).

Which is Better: Canggu, Seminyak, or Jimbaran?

Canggu, Seminyak, and Jimbaran are all desirable areas when it comes to deciding where to stay in Bali.

However, each of them has slight differences that might make one better suited for you than another.:

Canggu is a laid-back beach town known for having great surfing conditions, plenty of yoga classes, and fun bars where you’ll want to dance the night away!

And then there’s Seminyak which is known for having beautiful resorts, a variety of dining options, and also great options for a lively night out.

You’ll find Canggu and Seminyak are much busier areas than Jimbaran, as they are more popular tourist destinations.

But this might make Jimbaran more appealing for those looking to get out of these bustling areas, and enjoy spending time on quieter beaches with less traffic.

There isn’t quite the same nightlife in Jimbaran as the other two places, but you’ll still find plenty of options to enjoy a cocktail for sunset!

How Many Days Should You Stay In Jimbaran?

I’d recommend spending 2 days in Jimbaran to relax on Jimbaran Beach, eat all the seafood, and watch a couple of the most stunning sunsets!

Many people make day trips to Jimbaran, but in my opinion, this is not enough time to fully experience the area.

You may also want to consider basing yourself in Jimbaran for the duration of your trip and plan to make day trips from there!

Jimbaran makes for a convenient location as it’s only a short 20 minutes drive to some of Bali’s best cliffside beaches in Uluwatu, and a 40-minute drive to the surfer vibes in Canggu.

With the incredible resorts, Jimbaran has to offer, I have a feeling you won’t want to leave!

Best Things to Do in Jimbaran

There are plenty of things to do to fill your days in Jimbaran from cultural experiences to exciting watersport activities, or restful days spent lying by the pool!

Jimbaran has a great blend of things to do that can appeal to everyone.

Here is a list of some of my must-do’s while you are there:

  • Dine at Warung Bamboo for a delicious seafood sunset dinner on the beach
  • Find your way to the hidden, but worthwhile, views at Honeymoon Beach
  • Wander around the cultural park of Garuda Wisnu Kencana
  • Make an afternoon trip to Uluwatu temple, and watch a Kecak Dance
  • Create your own unique ceramic piece at the PT Jenggala Keramik Gallery
  • Indulge yourself with cocktails at Bali’s famous Rock Bali at the Ayana Resort

Can You Swim at Jimbaran Beach?

Yes, you can swim at Jimbaran Beach– and you should! It’s one of the best beaches for swimming in all of Bali.

The reef is pushed far back and the water’s typically very calm here which makes it the perfect spot for water sports or swimming.

Unlike some other beaches in Bali such as Canggu, Jimbaran Beach isn’t overly crowded so the beach remains very clean and relaxing to enjoy.

I would recommend checking out the beach in front of the Intercontinental Resort– this is a particularly great spot to spend the day, as the beach is extra clean with plenty of trees for shade!

Jimbaran is the perfect place to experience luxury in a laid-back, authentic environment.

It’s where mainland Bali and the Bukit Peninsula meet, an area every beach lover is bound to fall in love with!

If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat, to enjoy a hotel’s luxuries mixed with the simple pleasures of a Balinese fishermen’s town, then Jimbaran should be your next destination.
