Where to Stay in Ibiza: Best Towns, Villages, and Hotels
Ibiza, one of the four Balearic Islands off the east coast of mainland Spain, is well-known for its unbelievable clubs and parties. In fact, it's so well-known that many people think that's all there is to do in Ibiza, which couldn't be further from the truth. This stunning island is home to some of the best beaches in Europe, idyllic little hilltop villages, cultural towns, and some of the finest and freshest food I've ever eaten.
Accommodation in Ibiza is about as varied as its landscape. You can find everything from 5-star luxury hotels to more affordable B&Bs. The White Island is also one of the top worldwide destinations for yoga travel and the inland is full of retreats and farms offering shorter and longer-term yoga holidays.
Although a popular tourist destination for Spaniards, Europeans, and international visitors, it's worth remembering that Ibiza is not cheap, unlike other areas in the Balearic Islands. It's generally a more luxurious and therefore expensive place to visit, although you can bag some bargains if you book in advance.
In this guide, I'm going to share with you some of my favorite places to stay on one of my favorite islands. From larger towns to idyllic little calas, Ibiza is the perfect holiday spot for any traveler.
The Best Time to Visit Ibiza
Ibiza is a very seasonal island, meaning the summer months are much more busy. August, in particular, can be very hot and crowded. Accommodation and travel to the island are generally more expensive then too. But, summer is when the biggest parties on the island take place and, if you want to see one of the more famous DJs play, you'll need to go then.
May and late September are my favorite times to go to Ibiza. The weather is still warm, although not stifling like in August, and there are fewer people. Both months are a great time to enjoy everything that the island has to offer, from emptier beaches to cheaper accommodation – and there are still some great parties happening if that's what you're after. In fact, the opening and closing parties are two of the biggest weekends on the island.
Getting to Ibiza
Ibiza has a pretty large, international airport with flights leaving daily to cities across Europe. You can usually find cheap flights from Spanish cities such as Valencia, Madrid, and Barcelona, especially if you book in advance.
Because Ibiza is also an island, my favorite way to get there is via ferry. It's often much longer and more expensive, but, in my opinion, there's something so exciting about arriving somewhere by boat. In the summer months, boats leave daily from Valencia, Barcelona, and Denia.
Where to Stay in Ibiza: Best Areas for Every Type of Traveler
One of my favorite things about Ibiza is that there really is something for everyone, regardless of whether you're a family, partier, solo traveler, or couple.
Each area of the island has something unique to offer and can be the perfect holiday destination, whatever you fancy doing. Ibiza is an island you can cross from west to east in about an hour, so it's easy to choose one spot to base yourself and travel around to see the others!
1. Where to Stay in Ibiza as a First-Time Visitor: Ibiza Town
Best for: First-timers to the island and easy accessibility.
Ibiza Town (also known as Eivissa in the local language) is located on the southeast of the island and is a great choice for first-time visitors. It's the capital of the island and is full of great bars, tapas restaurants, clubs, and shops and is only 30 minutes on the bus from the airport.
The town itself can be a little touristy, especially in summer, but getting lost in the small streets of the walled citadel, Dalt Vila, is essential. Ibiza's Old Town lies on the hill overlooking the harbor and is the perfect place to go for a coffee, ice cream, a drink, or simply wander around admiring the enormous cacti and bougainvillea.
As Ibiza's nickname, the White Island, suggests, typical buildings in Ibiza are made from beautiful white stone. Dalt Vila is one of my favorite areas to see Ibizan architecture and you get a beautiful view over the entire bay. If you do go for a walk to the top, be sure to bring a bottle of water – it gets quite steep in some places!
One of my favorite things to do in Ibiza town is go for a walk around the harbor. In fact, I love doing that wherever I am, but it's particularly amazing in Ibiza because of the amount of super yachts. It's a great way to see how the other half lives!
The harbor is also a good location if you want to take some boat tours around the island or you're arriving via boat.

2. Where to Stay in Ibiza for Nightlife: Playa d'en Bossa
Best for: Clubbing, groups, and budget.
If you're in Ibiza for a weekend of partying, then you'll probably want to stay in Playa d'en Bossa. If you're on the island for some R&R or have kids, you might want to give it a miss.
Playa d'en Bossa is a long beach to the south of Ibiza Town and is lined by some of the most famous clubs on the island and in the world! Clubs such as Hï Ibiza and Ushuaïa are both at Playa d'en Bossa and there are plenty of other beach bars and beach clubs to enjoy if you're not up for a whole night of partying.
Playa d'en Bossa isn't known for being one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. It's certainly not the idyllic little cala you think of when you think of the Balearic Islands. But, compared to many beaches around the world, it's still pretty incredible.

3. Where to Stay in Ibiza on a Budget: San Antonio – Sant Antoni de Portmany
Best for: Partying, couples, groups, budget, and young families.
San Antonio is one of the most popular places for people to stay in Ibiza. It has a little something for everyone and is well connected to the airport and port, making it very accessible.
It's popular amongst those who are on the island to party and that want a little more atmosphere around them than other party spots, such as Playa d'en Bossa. Big clubs such as Eden and Es Paradis are in San Antonio and there are loads of local and international bars.
But, unlike some other spots on the island, San Antonio isn't all about big clubs. The San Antonio Bay is a great beach and area to walk around. It's sandy, which makes it ideal for kids and there's a beautiful palm-lined promenade.
One of the main reasons why San Antonio, and the West Coast in general, is so popular is because of the stunning sunsets you can see there. Naturally, the perfectly-named Sunset Strip is full of cocktail bars and restaurants where you can grab a drink as the sun sets. Some of the most famous beach bars, such as Café del Mar and Mambo, are in San Antonio.

4. Where to Stay in Ibiza for a Relaxing Holiday: Cala San Vicente
Best for: Those wanting a bit of peace and quiet, couples, young families, nature.
Cala San Vicente is very different from the other areas on this list of where to stay in Ibiza. Located in the northeast of the Island, it's a bit further away from the airport than San Antonio or Ibiza Town. It's only, however, a 45-minute ride away.
Cala San Vicente is a quiet resort town surrounded by rugged hills and rocks. Luckily, however, the beach at Cala San Vicente has beautiful sand and turquoise waters. There are some other great beaches just a short drive away, such as Aigües Blanques, that are worth exploring too.
This area of the island is wilder and great for going on walks, such as to the Farro de Punta Grossa or the Mirador de sa Punta Grossa. Both of these points give you stunning views across the Mediterranean and it's well worth going for sunrise.

5. Where to Stay in Ibiza With Family: Santa Eulalia
Best for: Families and groups of people.
Santa Eulalia is Ibiza's third largest town after Ibiza and San Antonio. It's about 10 km to the north of Ibiza Town and is located on a beautiful beach with a cute little marina too. The town is quite built up, but not in an over-the-top way, which means you've got everything you need in one place.
One of the best things about Santa Eulalia is all the amazing restaurants and cafes there are on every corner. The town offers local dishes as well as lots of international cuisine. A really popular place in Santa Eulalia is Brunchit, a great restaurant right on the waterfront for…well… brunch! There's a beautiful courtyard and terrace that you can enjoy too.
My personal favorite is a 5 minute drive away or a half an hour walk. Restaurant Sa Finca is nestled amongst the pine trees and has one of the best sunset views over the valley. The food is delicious and is both local and international.
Santa Eulalia is also very kid-friendly and the beach is perfect for them to enjoy. There's less of a party feel compared to the other big towns but there are still some great bars on the beach for parents to have a drink.
Santa Eulalia also has lots of boutique shops where you can find local products as well as clothes and souvenirs.

6. Where to Stay in Ibiza off the Beaten Path: Portinatx
Best for: Experiencing a quiet and rugged Ibiza. Great for families too.
Portinatx is a small town in the north of Ibiza and is much more laid back than other places on the island. It has an old fishing village feel and the beaches surrounding it are some of my favorite. The water is crystal clear and lots of people spend the day snorkeling or enjoying water sports. The beach is lined with beautiful rocks and pine trees that you can explore and it's really kid-friendly.
If you do choose to base yourself in Portinatx it might be worth renting a car. You don't need to but there are lots of other amazing beaches nearby which are worth visiting. If you're up for it, you could also go on one of the many stunning hiking trails nearby which give you beautiful views of the coast and the interior.
