Hotel Review: Soulshine Bali, Ubud’s Sound & Wellness Resort
Being just a short flight from my home base in Australia, I have a deep appreciation for visiting Bali and continually love seeking out new destinations and hotels all over the island. Having frequented Ubud over the years, my recent trip allowed me to experience Bali's pioneering sound and wellness resort, Soulshine Bali.
Co-founded by singer Michael Franti and his wife Sara, Soulshine Bali offers a diverse range of facilities, including tranquil yoga pavilions, a luxurious spa, and a gourmet restaurant serving healthy cuisine.
The resort's lush surroundings and inviting infinity pool create a paradise-like atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for a holistic and indulgent retreat experience that feels like worlds away.
Soulshine Welcome & Room Types
Arriving with the shuttle service at Soulshine Bali in the late afternoon, I was greeted with a refreshing drink by the attentive Soulshine team.
The moment I entered the air-conditioned reception area with its floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic views of the property and surrounding rice paddies, I felt an immediate sense of relaxation.
Soulshine Bali offers a variety of thoughtfully designed room types to suit your preferences, from cozy and intimate rooms overlooking the jungle to spacious and luxurious suites with private plunge pools.
Choose from options like the Pool Rooms, which feature private plunge pools, verdant gardens, stylish interiors by renowned designers, and an invigorating rainfall shower.
The Garden Rooms are modern and fully equipped with an ensuite bathroom, sitting area, air-conditioning and built-in robes.
The Soul Rooms come with handcrafted furniture by local artisans, blending antique pieces with modern decor. From the balcony, you get a gorgeous jungle view which makes it feel like staying in a tree-house.
Staying in Soulshine's Panorama Suite
I stayed in one of Soulshine Bali's Panorama Suites, which has stunning vistas of the jungle and rice fields.
All Panorama Suites have a spacious living area as well as a large balcony with an egg chair, which I loved hanging out in at sunset listening to the jungle come to life.
Inside, my suite was nicely decorated and featured handcrafted furniture by local artisans, and luxurious linens and to my surprise, I also found a vinyl record player alongside modern elements like an in-room bar and Marshall speakers, which created an inviting atmosphere.
Connected to the speakers was a playlist tailored to my music preferences – a thoughtful and personal touch that the hotel inquired about before check-in.
Stepping into the bathroom, the huge terrazzo tub took the stage with a spacious rainshower tucked away next to it.
The jungle-facing panorama suites also offer an in-room bar to mix cocktails and I found a basket of fresh fruit and a glass jar of cookies as a welcome on the coffee table.
The room amenities certainly didn't disappoint and you bet I played some tunes on the guitar!
Following a day filled with adventure, I found myself quite tired in the evening. Opting for a cozy night in, I used the hotel app to order some caramel popcorn and indulged in a Netflix comedy – absolute perfection!
Soulshine Bali Facilities & Retreats
Soulshine Bali's facilities are seriously on point. Whether you're into chilling by the pool or diving into the local culture, Soulshine Resort got it all for a laid-back, yet totally indulgent stay. Highly recommend soaking it all in!
Morning Yoga & Retreats at Soulshine Bali
In the early morning, I headed to the yoga pavilion for a session. Surrounded by trees and lush greenery, the small group practice created a tranquil escape, providing the perfect atmosphere to connect with my inner zen.
No matter if you come as a solo traveler or with your other half, the resort has plenty of things to offer. From sound healing sessions to joining a purification ceremony with a Balinese Priest and taking a Balinese Cooking Class.
Book yourself one of the many packages offered on their website or check out the year-round retreats that are offered at Soulshine Bali. The retreats include yoga, pilates, dance, writing and photography workshops, where you can build new skills or simply restore connections. They even offer retreats for corporate groups and business travelers.
The founders Michael and Sara Franti also host their own unique soulrocker retreat called ‘The Soulrocker Music Experience', a 7-night blend of music adventure, play, and wellness with a rock and roll twist.
Soulshine Bali Outdoor Pool & Gardens
Throughout the day, I relished the outdoor pool area, adorned with swings, numerous day beds for lounging, and a playful slide for added enjoyment.
I treated myself to a refreshing juice delivered to my day bed and later savored one of their delightful Nasi Goreng dishes.
Despite the presence of other guests, including private retreat groups, the space never felt crowded, and ample sun beds were available.
I didn't even feel bad leaving the resort as I was simply content to unwind in this peaceful paradise.
Soulshine Bali Spa
Soulshine Bali features a beautiful spa, which I got to try in the afternoon. Just pure bliss!
I'm talking next-level pampering. From the welcome drink to having a foot bath to the 1-Hour Balinese massage, everything was perfect.
You can book your spa appointment easily through the hotel app. On the spa menu, you find a variety of treatments, from classic foot reflexology to facial treatments and Ayurvedic experiences.
After my treatment, I remained seated by the expansive windows of the spa, sipping tea. The overall experience was incredibly calming, I didn't want to leave.
Soulshine Stay Human Restaurant
Let me tell you about the Stay Human Restaurant – the cuisine is not only delicious but also healthy. I particularly appreciate the open style, with abundant windows offering views of the stunning natural surroundings.
The team is attentive to dietary needs, accommodating requests for gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegetarian options.
Having breakfast with views of the garden and the pool was a real delight; the portions were generous, leaving me completely satisfied. The staff, always wearing big smiles, provided exceptional service.
A small organic farm at the opposite end of the property supplies ingredients for their dishes, adding an extra touch to the culinary experience.
Soulshine Bali Location: In the ricefields right outside Ubud
Soulshine Bali is spread across a little hill right among the rice fields just outside of Ubud. I used Grab to get from the hotel to Central Ubud.
In just about 15-20 minutes you'll reach the Ubud Palace and parallel running main streets. I enjoyed browsing the Ubud Market and sharing some delicious food with friends at my favorite cafes, which include Clear Cafe, Atman Kafe and Watercress Ubud.
I love how Soulshine Bali is so close to Ubud and you get to enjoy all there is to do. If you're looking for an Ubud experience like no other, with a tranquil and picturesque location, away from the hustle and bustle, yet remaining close enough to the heart of Ubud's vibrant cultural center, you should consider staying at Soulshine Bali.
Soulshine Bali – Final Words
Soulshine Bali is a magical place with wonderfully kind staff. I loved waking up with the view over the beautiful rice fields.
The mornings are a delight, waking up to panoramic views of the picturesque rice fields that paint a serene backdrop. The culinary experience is a highlight, with the restaurant offering not only amazing food but also attentive room service.
For those seeking a rejuvenating escape, joining a morning yoga class or week-long yoga retreat is a perfect opportunity for self-discovery. Soulshine Bali stands as a true gem of beauty, and it's sure to awe anyone seeking a luxurious retreat in Ubud.
