Pelan Pelan Bali: A Canggu Yoga & Surf Retreat
Are you ready to practice yoga and mindfulness, kick start your surfing career or just chill poolside on the beautiful island of Bali? If you have been following me for a while, it's probably no news to you that I am madly addicted to a little town in Bali called Canggu.
This tiny little slice of paradise has been my home a number of times in the past and I still love visiting. Luckily, it's so close to my home base in Australia now! I should, in fact, be going again in a few months and I will update you on all the cool changes happening around there.
If you want to read more about Canggu, check out my ultimate travel guide.
You might also know, that I have become a little yogi after years of literally not knowing how to even sit still and just breathe for ten minutes.
With the popularity of yoga in recent years, retreats have sprung up all around Bali. Surfing and yoga is kinda what you just do, try or maybe fail at and then fall in love with again when visiting the island of gods.
If you are eyeing Bali as your next destination, I highly recommend you have a look at some of the amazing yoga retreats over there.
Pelan Pelan Bali is one of these wonderful retreats, surrounded by beautiful Bali nature, lush rice paddies and yet only 10 short minutes away from the lively heart of Canggu with its cafes, bars and boutiques. Experience tranquility, peacefulness and the real Bali life just outside of busy Canggu.
Welcome To Pelan Pelan Surf And Yoga Retreat
In Balinese Pelan Pelan actually means ‘take it easy' and that's exactly what you come here for!
The owners of Pelan Pelan, Emma and Putu, will encourage you to just forget everything for a while, detox from social media and technology and simply immerse yourself into Balinese culture, meditation and enjoy the culinary experiences on offer.
From the moment you step out of the airplane in Bali, I promise, you will feel more relaxed, no matter if it's your first or fifth time to Bali, this island has some sort of magic that slows down everything. Just one more reason to love it!
Where Is Pelan Pelan Bali?
Located in Cemagi right on the busy doorstep of Canggu, Pelan Pelan Surf & Yoga Retreat is surrounded by lush rice paddies, long sandy beaches and beautiful temples. A perfect place to unwind and forget the stresses of everyday life back home.
The international airport is about 1-hour drive away.
Who Is Pelan Pelan For?
No matter if you come as a couple, with your best friend or as a solo traveller, Pelan Pelan Bali welcomes guests from around the world, most of them young travellers who are looking for comfort and value for money in a yoga retreat in Bali.
Yes, they also welcome families and offer activities that can be enjoyed together and help form an even stronger bond.
The Accommodation & Food
There are 8 different rooms across two levels set around a large pool with a green garden all around it. Choose from a cozy and private single room, a luxurious suite room, a shared room with three single beds or the family room. Additionally, you'll find a spacious common area, restaurant and the yoga sala right by the river.
All rooms have air conditioning, and mosquito nets as well as private bathrooms with hot water and a safety box. Towels are provided and the rooms are cleaned daily.
At Pelan Pelan it's not only about yoga, surfing and relaxation but the owners pride themselves on their healthy tasty food that is freshly prepared daily. This means daily market trips for the chef at 4 am to hunt down the best and freshest ingredients for Indonesian meals that are full of flavour. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are also available.
Add the always smiling staff and the three sweet dogs that live at the retreat, who I frequently see hang out on their Instagram Stories, and you'll truly wish to stay another week at this place!
Retreat Packages At Pelan Pelan
There are three different packages you can book at Pelan Pelan. There is a minimum stay at the retreat of 7 nights and discounts are offered if you decide to stay two or more weeks. All packages include airport pickup as well as free use of scooters and bicycles.
If you like, you can bring your own surfboard but the retreat will provide you boards when you book lessons also.
Wetsuits are not really necessary in Bali as the weather is warm and pleasant all year round. I like to use a rash guard, however, just because I easily get rashes from the surfboard and it is also handy to protect you from sunburn. There are plenty of surf shops in Canggu if you don't own a rash guard yet, just buy it right in Bali.
Surf and yoga classes are offered for all levels from beginners to advanced. All activities are optional of course, because you are on vacation, right?
1. Get It All Package
The bestseller, includes breakfast, a morning surf session, a homemade Indonesian lunch, three yoga and meditation classes to choose from plus lots of relaxation time by the pool to read a book or just to do nothing at all.
You could also be getting a massage before you go dine at the restaurant. Three Balinese massages are included in the Get It All Package.
On Wednesdays, there are usually half-day trips organized which you can join with other people staying at the retreat. Or take a full day on the weekend to explore other parts of the island, take a trip to Ubud or head for the shops in Seminyak.
2. Surf Package
Ever wanted to become a pro in surfing? I know I have! Bali actually reignited my love for surfing in 2016, when I lived in Canggu for a while and I pretty much went surfing every single day. I think it was then and there that I became a true ocean babe, it only took 27 years for that!
When you book the Surf Package at Pelan Pelan, you get one surf session with an instructor every day of the week, with the option to book a second session in the afternoon. Be prepared, those muscles will be sore! Otherwise, you could be joining one of the yoga or meditation classes. Of course, your daily homemade breakfast and lunch is covered also.
3. Yoga Relax Package
With four yoga sessions a week, meditation and three included Balinese massages, a hot stone massage, facial and manicure or pedicure, you will feel like you've been on holiday for weeks!
The Yoga Relax Package also includes daily breakfast and lunch as well as two cooking classes. And the choice to go on a half day or full-day trip plus one surf session, because I am sure you want to give it a try!
What Other Activities Can You Do While At Pelan Pelan?
If relaxation and pampering are high on your holiday wish list, then I have good news for you! The retreat has an extensive spa menu with anything from massages to body treatments, foot reflexology, facials as well as hair and nail care.
Bali has so many things to offer. One week is definitely not enough to explore it all. I don't even know if one month is enough to see it all, I doubt it!
However, if you want to explore the best of Bali, like a biking tour in Ubud, a visit to the famous Tanah Lot Temple, trekking Mount Batur or a day trip to explore the underwater life on Nusa Lembongan and so much more, just ask at Pelan Pelan and they can book it for you for pickup right at the retreat.
What are you waiting for? Book your tickets to Bali and let's live in the moment, because every day in Bali is a happy day!
