Where to Stay in Las Vegas: Best Hotels on & off the Strip

Las Vegas. Known as Sin City, The Entertainment Capital of the World, Adult Disneyland, and many more nicknames, this one-of-a-kind city is a must-visit for thrill-seekers looking for sun, sights, and entertainment in a desert backdrop. It's the kind of place that must be experienced first-hand, and once you've been, you'll never forget it.

While there is a downtown in Vegas, most people flock to the Las Vegas Strip, a long boulevard stretching more than 4 miles, lined with some of the world's most iconic hotels and casinos as well as bars to keep you entertained throughout the night.

The Strip is Vegas' heart and soul – anyone who's anyone has stayed (and partied) here and it truly never sleeps. It is known for its glitzy hotels and where all the magic happens – from entertainment to drinking, dining, and gambling.

But if you're wondering just which one of the incredible Las Vegas hotels you should choose to stay in, I will help you find where to stay in Las Vegas with my guide. Discover the city's most iconic accommodation and how to choose the best one. From the famous Bellagio Resort & Casino to Aria Las Vegas, find the right hotel in Las Vegas for your trip, with hotel prices to help you match your budget.

The best area to stay in Las Vegas

North Las Vegas Strip – The North portion of the Strip is home to many of Vegas' most upmarket hotels including the iconic Venetian. Blending just the right amount of luxury and debauchery, you'll also find plenty of entertainment, from circus acts to some of the city's biggest shows. This part of town is great for business travelers, too, as it's home to the Las Vegas Convention Center. Shopaholics will be kept happy by the multiple opportunities to engage in retail therapy, from the Venetian's Grand Canal Shoppes to the Fashion Show Mall.

Central Las Vegas Strip – Midway down the Strip is where you'll find the majority of Vegas' famous hotels and casinos, including the likes of Paris, Caesars, The Cosmopolitan, and The Mirage. This place isn't a spot to escape the crowds – there's tons of hustle and bustle and you'll find some of Vegas' (the world's, in fact) best entertainment shows. The Central Strip is the beating heart of Vegas, so even if you don't decide to stay here, visiting is a must.

South Las Vegas Strip – The South Strip is generally considered to start south of Harmon Avenue. It's home to many of the city's most iconic hotels, including the MGM Grand, New York New York, and Luxor. It's a little quieter than the Central Strip, but you're close to other attractions such as the Pinball Hall of Fame. At the bottom of the Las Vegas Strip, you'll also find the ‘Welcome to the Fabulous Las Vegas' sign a must-visit spot for an iconic photo for your Insta.

Where to Stay in Las Vegas – Frequently Asked Questions

❓ Is it better to stay on The Strip or Downtown Las Vegas?

Most visitors tend to stay on the Vegas Strip due to the incredible selection of luxury hotels and casinos as well as the safety that comes with staying in the tourist hotspot. Downtown Las Vegas is worth checking out if you want to go off the beaten path, but it's not quite as safe and the selection of hotels isn't remotely comparable.

I prefer to stay on the Strip but venture off it occasionally for more budget-friendly meals and sights like the Fremont Street Experience. The Mob Museum is well worth a visit, too. If you're just staying as a layover, the Residence Inn by Marriott Las Vegas right at the airport is a hotel with enough luxury to promise a good night's sleep.

📍 Which part of Las Vegas is best to stay in?

The Strip is the best part of Vegas to stay in. With an unrivaled hotel selection as well as casinos, restaurants and bars to keep you entertained all night, the Strip gives you the real Sin City experience, from eye-catching neon signs to glamorous showgirls.

📅 How many days should I spend in Vegas?

Vegas can be seen over a long weekend, and if you plan on partying every night it might not be sustainable to stay for much longer! But visiting Vegas for a week or so is definitely a good idea for those who want to see more than just the glitz and glamor or visit nearby nature spots such as the Grand Canyon.

☀️ What's the best and worst time of the year to visit Las Vegas?

While many are tempted to visit Vegas in summer, it's not the best time to see this unique desert city. It's extremely hot, insufferably busy, and twice as expensive. By visiting in fall or spring you'll escape the majority of the crowds and enjoy more pleasant weather conditions. Even visiting Vegas in winter can be a good option – while it does cool down significantly in the evenings you'll still enjoy sunshine and dry days during the majority of the season.

🚗 Do I need to hire a car in Las Vegas?

While the USA is pretty car-centric, the good news is you won't need a car to visit Las Vegas. You can walk down the entire Strip, and when you want to go a little further afield, there are plenty of taxis and rideshare apps like Uber available. If you do hire a car, however, you'll benefit from being able to drive freely around the city and surrounding area – a trip to the Grand Canyon would be a fun idea for nature lovers.

✔️ Is it safe to walk the Vegas Strip at night?

On the whole, it's safe to walk the Vegas Strip at night. You may encounter inebriated people, showgirls, and a few disappointed gamblers (this is Sin City, after all!) but the crime rates aren't very high on the Las Vegas Strip. You're also safe in the downtown area around Fremont Street, but go much further and you'll be outside of the main tourist drag, which can be a little more dodgy.

Where to Stay in Las Vegas – Final Words

The truth is, wherever you stay on the Vegas Strip, you'll have an incredible time. Las Vegas is often compared to cities like Orlando due to its heavy emphasis on tourism and entertainment. Both cities are certainly known for their extensive array of attractions and lively atmospheres.

Las Vegas is famous for its casinos, vibrant nightlife, and extravagant shows and caters to visitors seeking excitement and entertainment, including adult-centric attractions.
