Where to Stay In Phu Quoc (Everything You Need to Know)
Phu Quoc is a Vietnamese island paradise situated in the Gulf of Thailand off the coast of Cambodia. It is still a relatively unknown destination in Southeast Asia.
Although the island is gaining popularity and developing more resorts, it still maintains much of its local charm compared to other top destinations in the Southeast region. With its beautiful beaches, lush green hills, dense jungles, and amazing seafood, you will quickly realize why the island is becoming more and more popular. If you still want a piece of that more authentic feel, then I suggest you hurry up and get here as soon as possible!
With that being said, the most important question when planning your trip is: Where to stay in Phu Quoc? Whether you're looking for a luxury resort at the beachfront, private villas or budget accommodation in Duong Dong Town, or something in between, I'll show you all the best hotels!
Best Hotels in Phu Quoc: My Top Picks
The best areas to stay in Phu Quoc
From honeymooners looking for a luxurious beachside villa to backpackers seeking budget options in town, I have narrowed it down to my five favorite areas on the island, so you can figure out which area to stay in Phu Quoc.
If you're interested in staying close to the coastline, Truong Beach, Khem Beach, Ong Lang Beach, and Bai Dai Beach are great options. They offer stunning views and are perfect for families or couples looking for a secluded getaway.
However, if you're more interested in soaking up the local culture of the Vietnamese island, then staying in Duong Dong Town might be a better choice for you.
1. Where to stay in Phu Quoc for the first time & most central: Duong Dong Town
Duong Dong Town is, without a doubt, the busiest and most bustling area on Phu Quoc Island.
Located on the western side of the island, it's the main town of the island and home to many locals as well as endless street food stalls, shops, bars, and restaurants. Furthermore, it's a great base to start trekking tours through the jungle and explore the island's national park!
I personally love spending a few nights in the busier and more local parts of a city to fully experience the local culture, particularly when it comes to trying out street food!
Duong Dong Town is the best area for:

Things to see & do in Duong Dong Town
When you're travelling Southeast Asia, one thing you'll see in most busy towns or cities is markets. In Duong Dong Town, there are a few markets, but the one you shouldn't miss is the Phu Quoc Night Market. It runs every night from 6 pm until 11:30 pm in the center of Duong Dong Town. You'll discover the most incredible local street food there. They serve amazing seafood, delicious traditional desserts, and you can also find loads of different souvenirs.
Phu Quoc Island is mainly known for its fish sauce and fishing traditions. Hence, if you're looking for a unique and authentic experience, you should visit the Dinh Cau Temple, which stands on a small rock on the beach in Duong Dong Town. Local fishermen come here to pray for good luck while offering fruits, flowers, and incense sticks in exchange!
If you love coffee, I suggest checking out The Coffee Garden! Their baristas make amazing coffee, they serve fresh juices, and they offer traditional dishes with a modern spin.

Absolutely! Phu Quoc is one of the most stunning islands in Vietnam. It has pristine beaches, lush jungles, and plenty of activities for all types of travelers. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, an adventurous family vacation, or a unique place off the beaten path, I highly recommend visiting!
📅 How many days should I spend in Phu Quoc?
I recommend spending at least 5 days on the island. You'll need to add an extra day if you plan to take a boat tour or explore some of the more remote beaches and nearby islands. That way, you can make sure that you get to experience all that Phu Quoc Island has to offer!
🏝️ Which side of Phu Quoc Island is the best?
That really depends on what you're looking for. For example, if you want to explore the island's natural beauty and have a quiet stay away from the hustle and bustle of tourist spots, then Khem Beach is your best option. On the other hand, if luxury and opulence are more your style, then Bai Dai Beach is the way to go.
📍 Where is the main part of Phu Quoc?
The main part of Phu Quoc is located on the western side of the island around Duong Dong and Truong Beach. Here, you'll find the bustling town center with plenty of restaurants and bars and the busiest beaches.
🏖️ Should I stay in Phu Quoc or is Nha Trang or Da Nang better for a beach holiday?
If you want an authentic, tropical island experience, then Phu Quoc is the best option. Nha Trang or staying in Da Nang are both great beach destinations, but they don't quite have the same charm as Phu Quoc.
❓ Is Phu Quoc or Phuket in Thailand better?
That's a difficult question to answer since both destinations have so much to offer! However, if you're looking for a more laid-back and authentic tropical island experience with plenty of pristine beaches and lush jungles, then I would suggest Phu Quoc over holidaying in Phuket!
Where to stay in Phu Quoc – Final Words
