Where to stay in Bohol – Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Bohol is one of the best islands in the Philippines for travellers who want a mix of beach time and nature without staying somewhere overly commercialised like Boracay.
Panglao Island offers easy access to white sand beaches, diving trips to Balicasag Island, and beachfront resorts, while areas like Anda are better suited for couples or honeymooners looking for a quieter and more secluded stay.
Ideally, plan to stay in Bohol for at least 3–4 days. This gives you enough time to explore the Chocolate Hills, take a boat trip to Balicasag Island, visit the Tarsier Sanctuary
and still enjoy some downtime at your resort. If you’re planning to stay in a quieter area like Anda, consider adding an extra night to fully enjoy the beaches.
Panglao Island is the best area to stay in Bohol if it’s your first time visiting.
It’s where you’ll find the highest concentration of beachfront resorts, easy access to island hopping tours, plenty of dive shops and snorkelling trips, restaurants and nightlife. Staying in Panglao also makes it easier to organise day trips to the Chocolate Hills or Loboc River.
If you’re visiting Bohol as a couple or on honeymoon, Anda is one of the best areas to stay. It’s much quieter than Panglao and known for its boutique beachfront resorts, romantic private villas and uncrowded beaches. Plus the area has excellent snorkelling spots, making it ideal for travellers looking for a romantic beach escape.
To get around Bohol, you can rent a scooter, hire a private car or use public transportation such as tricycles and jeepneys. Some resorts also offer tour packages with transportation included! I do recommend renting a scooter if staying in Panglao as it’s one of the easiest ways to explore nearby beaches, restaurants and dive shops.
Panglao is better for first-time visitors who want beachfront resorts, restaurants and nightlife and easy access to tours. Anda is better suited for couples and honeymooners
or travellers looking for a quieter and more remote beach stay.
Bohol is better for travellers who want a mix of nature, culture and beach time in a more laid-back setting. Boracay is more developed and suited for those looking for thriving nightlife, water sports and a lively beach atmosphere. If you prefer boutique resorts and quieter beaches, Bohol is generally the better option.
