Ultimate Travel Guide to Kingscliff: Things to Do, Sleep & Eat

Kingscliff is a real hidden gem in Northern New South Wales. Often overlooked for more popular towns like Byron Bay or Coolangatta, making a stop in this town for a few hours or a few days to explore the picturesque shores of the Pacific Ocean is certainly worth it.

Just 15 minutes across the border from Queensland, Kingscliff is perfect for anyone seeking a coastal weekend away or a relaxing holiday amidst breathtaking natural beauty and charming seaside vibes in Northern NSW.

Farm and Co Kingscliff
When in Kingscliff, you gotta visit Farm & Co.

In this comprehensive guide, I'll uncover the best things to do in town, where to sleep, and the best cafes and restaurants in Kingscliff, not only along the main Kingscliff beach but also nearby gems like Salt Village, Cabarita Beach, and Cudgen Headland.

Getting to and Around Kingscliff

Getting to Kingscliff is hassle-free as you've got convenient access via major airports such as Gold Coast Airport (OOL), only a 15-minute drive over the Queensland border, or coming from Brisbane Airport (BNE), it's about a 90-minute drive south along the Pacific Highway.

Once you're in Kingscliff, the town is pretty compact with one main street being the Marine Parade and parallel Pearl Street where you'll find most shops and restaurants, including the Kingscliff Beach Hotel and Surf Club. It's all within walking distance!

To get to a spot further outside of the charming coastal town, there are plenty of flat and paved walking routes. I actually love renting a bicycle to pedal along the scenic coastline but you can also explore by car. of course, which is especially needed if you'd like to go to the farms in the hinterland.

Best Time to Visit Kingscliff

The best time to visit Kingscliff is during the shoulder seasons of autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November), when the weather is warm, and crowds are fewer. Temperatures are comfortable for outdoor activities such as beaching, hiking, and exploring the town's attractions without the intense heat of summer. Make sure you avoid the School Holidays at all costs as it gets busy here!

Winter is a great time to visit Kingscliff too, especially since you can take advantage of lower accommodation rates and enjoy the beauty of Kingscliff's coastal landscapes without the peak season rush.

I've stayed many times in Kingscliff and since I live on the Gold Coast, it's an easy weekend destination for me and I highly recommend a day trip to this little town. I've taken many overseas visitors to it for lunch and sightseeing, and everyone has been pretty impressed!
