Do you want to work online from your laptop and wondering what the best remote jobs are?

With remote work is becoming more and more common and popular, chances are, you don't have to return to your office.

Instead, you could be working from the comfort of your home, and in your PJs, if you really wanted!

I've done exactly that for over 6 years now. I've worked various online jobs from home while traveling the world, from freelance jobs to remote jobs for remote companies, and then I started building my own online business.

Today, we're going to break it all down for you, how to work from home, the careers that can be done remotely, and what jobs make $30 an hour and more!

Many of the below listed remote jobs also have a low unemployment rate.

What Is Remote Work?

So what is a remote job? You might have heard about telecommuting jobs or work from home gigs, which are essentially the same as remote work.

If you're searching for a remote job, I also recommend you search for telecommuting jobs as well, as these terms are often used interchangeably on remote job sites.

You work from home, a coworking space, coffee shop, or wherever you want really, without having to commute to work and sit in a traditional office with your peers. Instead, you clock in remotely over remote tools like Slack, Google Hangouts and manage your projects through tools like Asana for example.

How do you work remotely? Thanks to the digital age and the Internet, working remotely is easier than ever!

You can communicate with your team and complete projects without even being in the same room, city, or country.

All you need is a laptop and a good Internet connection and you're ready to go fully remote, working from home.

Many freelancers today also call themselves remote, since they work for themselves, they can decide when and where they want to work as long as they complete their work.

Remote work is a little different from Flex Jobs, as those essentially give you time flexibility, but not necessarily the freedom to choose your location.

The Pros of Getting A Remote Job

  • There is no commute, traffic and rush hour
  • You can (mostly) work on your own time schedule
  • You can work from wherever you want, your home office, couch, local coffee shop or even outdoors
  • More time for pets and family
  • Chances are you'll feel healthier having more time to work out and make your own healthy lunches at home
  • You probably feel more productive
  • You won't spend any money on commuting or expensive lunches in the city

The Cons of Getting A Remote Job

  • You need to be able to divide home and work-life yourself, nobody tells you when to clock on and off
  • Working from home can get lonely, catching up with others in the same situation in coffee shops or coworking spaces can help
  • There won't be team happy hours like you know them, they are either happening virtually or not at all

Is Remote Work Right For You?

While I believe remote work can work for everyone, it's hard to say if it's the right thing for you right now.

If you like the idea of reducing workplace distractions and feel like you could be more comfortable and productive working from home, all while eliminating daily commutes and reduce your environmental impact, chances are you will be just fine.

Another important skill to have when working remotely is personal discipline to get up in the morning and managing your own time throughout the day.

Things that help is setting up a proper routine and establishing working hours as well as having a separate room or space where you can close the door and actually knuckle down and work, away from any distractions at home.

Ask yourself, look at your lifestyle and how you want to balance work and life in the future.

Remote work is not for everybody. While some people may thrive working remotely, other people actually thrive in an office environment, so choose what's right for you!

#1 Job Aggregator Platforms

When looking for the best remote jobs online, there are many job sites you can check out.

Some good ones are:

Many of these are job aggregators, meaning that they simply pull in job listings from all over the Internet into one feed and the jobs listed are not actually checked by real humans.

Therefore, you will have to sort through the jobs and judge them if they are legit and usable yourself.

It helps to run a Google search on the company offering the job to see if they are a legit and established company, so you don't waste your time applying for any online jobs that are actually unusable.
