chiang mai relaxed guide

You most likely already know that I am in love with the mountainous city of Chiang Mai. A city full of history, temples and modern funky cafes. I have in fact written a lot of times about this city already, from full itineraries to day trips around town, you'll find a lot in my Thailand section, feel free!

So today, I let Ryan and Ahm take the stage. Because many visitors to Chiang Mai’s hottest tattoo shop called Panumart Tattoo regularly ask the shop owners for advice on what to do in Chiang Mai. Here are their top 5 places to spend a relaxing time in the Rose of the North.

CentralPlaza At Chiang Mai Airport

Malls are a great way to mix in with the locals. And enjoy a bit of aircon in those hotter months in Chiang Mai.

At CentralPlaza you can enjoy a great food market on the base floor, which also is a great place to find fashionable and affordable local clothing brands.

Upstairs you can enjoy some finer dining and then nibble on some delicious popcorn at Major Cineplex, which is a great movie theater.

Thanin Market

A trip to an authentic day market is a must-do in Thailand. The Thanin Market is the best one I know of in Chiang Mai.

You’ll have your pick of fresh fruit and produce and prepared foods, as well as a la carte dining. The adventurous traveller can venture to the butcher’s section where they will encounter bizarre sights and strong smells. Not for the faint-hearted!

Royal Park Rajapruek

The namesake of this park comes with an admission fee, for which you’ll gain access to beautiful flower gardens.

But I prefer to hang out in the free area where every afternoon hundreds of locals come together to walk, run, cycle and relax in the gorgeously manicured garden area.

Panumart Tattoo

Located in their home, in Chiang Mai’s rural suburbs, Panumart Tattoo offers a personalized, hanging-with-friends spin on tattooing.

The shop is owned by Ahm and Ryan, both of whom seek to give travellers to Thailand a memorable experience. In addition to a great piece of ink, you’ll enjoy relaxing views of nature, air-conditioning, wifi, the music of your choice and some local food. What a souvenir to take home!
